During the overview of the year 2019, the staff of the Geological Survey of Estonia elected the colleague and the action of the year. The human resources manager Maris Lanno was awarded the title “The Colleague of the Year”. Maris is characterized by her colleagues as a friendly and professional staff member, who is ready to help in tackling with bureaucracy and dedicated to her work.

The title “The Action of the Year 2019” was awarded for completion of the new depository of drill cores at the Arbavere research centre. In addition to room for storing drill cores, the new depository has space for drill core logging, rock sample preparation and sampling. The Geological Survey of Estonia started in 2018 to construct the modern Arbavere research centre for studying mineral resources in the Arbavere village of the Kadrina municipality. The objective of building the research centre is to assemble all the state-owned drill core material in Arbavere. At present, drill cores are stored also in the Keila town and Tuula village of Harju County. A modern research centre offers safe deposition of drill cores but also up-to-date conditions for studying the stored rocks and sediments. It provides for development of both domestic and international co-operation in applied studies, and for organizing practices, training and workshops for pupils, students and other target groups.
