The Estonian Maritime Museum opened on 17 October at the Tallinn Seaplane Harbour (Lennusadam) the exhibition “Unseen Oceans” by the American Museum of Natural History, as well as the exhibition “The Baltic Sea in the World Ocean”. Marine geologists of the Geological Survey of Estonia compiled the marine geological part of the Baltic Sea exhibition. It introduces marine geological research methods and equipment, geological resources of the seafloor and intriguing relief forms. The Neugrund meteorite crater receives particular attention with an animation that has been especially prepared for the exhibition. Some of the exhibits have been collected during the expeditions of this summer (for example, Fe-Mn nodules and boulders of Neugrund breccia). In addition, a popular scientific publication “The Evening Textbook of the Underwater World” (in Estonian) was composed in the framework of the exhibition. Kalle-Mart Suuroja compiled the marine geological part of this book.
The exhibition „Unseen Oceans“ stays open at the Seaplane Harbour until 25 April 2021. The exhibition „The Baltic Sea in the World Ocean“ is open for visitors until 30 June 2021. Closer information at exhibitions homepage.
