The director of the Geological Survey of Estonia, Alvar Soesoo and the acting vice-director for innovation and business relations of the Tallinn University of Technology, Mati Lukas signed on 9 January an agreement of co-operation between the survey and the university. The goal of the agreement is to develop and tighten mutual connections for contributing in gaining knowledge on geological structure and mineral resources of Estonia and other countries. This is pursued in efficient co-operation using the scientific potential, infrastructure and data collections of both institutions. The target of the co-operation is in concert with the state strategy “General principles of Earth’s crust policy until 2050”, adopted by the Estonian parliament.
The director of the Geological Survey of Estonia, Alvar Soesoo: „This is already our third co-operation agreement with a university. Last year we entered into agreement with the Universities of Tartu and Tallinn. Although co-operation with the universities has taken place also before the agreements, they provide even a stronger basis for joint efforts. Co-operation agreements with universities are essential for joint research that the state needs, for gaining knowledge on mineral resource and developing the best means for their usage, as well as for improving public awareness.”
The Geological Survey of Estonia started its operation in 2108. Its principal tasks are geological mapping of Estonia, maintaining databases on Earth’s crust, conducting geological investigations and monitoring, and consulting the government in investigation and use of the subsurface.
