The Prime Minister of Estonia, Jüri Ratas visited the Rakvere office of the geological survey on 12 November 2019. The meeting was very constructive and comprehensive. The prime minister was very interested in investigations and projects carried out at the survey, keen on learning about activities of different departments and inquired about co-operation with the universities.
We narrated to the prime minister on mineral resources essential to the state, possibilities of making research of them and on future prospects. We noted that it is not simple to compensate a few decades’ undone geological investigations during a couple of years. Currently, both the government and the society consider that the Earth’s crust in Estonia has to be studied extensively and in a science-based manner. Only then it is possible to decide, if a certain mineral resource could be used and how it could be used, and what would be the impact on the environment, economy and social welfare.
The prime minister emphasized on several occasions during his visit that the activities of the geological survey are very essential and useful for the state.
