The Geological Survey of Estonia presented the results and future plans of the earth crust explorations of recent years at a seminar held yesterday as part of the European Raw Materials Week. Representatives of the European Commission, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, the Geological Survey of Finland and Neo Performance Materials also spoke at the seminar.

Since 2018, the Geological Survey of Estonia has been engaged in research on phosphorite and associated resources. "Estonia is known to have some of the largest reserves of phosphorite in Europe. In addition to phosphorous, rare earth elements are present in Estonian phosphorite. Other potential mineral resources, such as black shale, which are enriched with vanadium, molybdenum and uranium, are also associated with phosphorite. In recent years, we have also studied the crystalline basement of Estonia in Ida-Viru County and found there signs of the mineralisation of various metals, including precious metals," explained Tiit Kaasik, the Head of the Mineral Resources Department of the Geological Survey of Estonia. During the European Raw Materials Week, experts from the Geological Survey presented the results and plans for the future of studies on graptolitic argillite, crystalline basement and phosphorite and related metals.

The European Raw Materials Week is a major global event in the field, bringing together researchers, entrepreneurs and policy makers from all regions of the world.
