The radon risk map of Estonian soil has been completed at the Geological Survey of Estonia. The map assembles the data collected in radon investigations of the soil carried out by the geological survey and its predecessor, Eesti Geoloogiakeskus, during the time span of roughly two decades.

The interest on a map of radon risk of the Estonian soil has been increasing through the years because of modern energy-efficient building style and because an EU directive on measuring radon concentration in working spaces (European Council directive 2013/59/Euratom) was put into practise in Estonia in 2018.The radon risk map has been published according to the generally recognized principle in Estonia that results of Rn measurements are made public in a generalized manner.

The plan is to update the radon risk map of Estonian soil when enough new data have been added up, but in any case at least once a year. The radon risk map can be found through a web link and in the EGT map application portal. A short introduction accompanying the map application gives a concise overview of radon, its distribution and measurements. Those who have deeper interest on the topic are directed to the Atlas of Radon Risk and Natural Radiation in Estonian Soil (Petersell et al. 2017).
