Practical training for students of mineral resource study programme took place in May in south and south-west Finland. It was arranged as a joint effort by the Tallinn University of Technology and the Geological Survey of Estonia.
The field training provided an understanding of geological processes within the Fennoscandian shield. Geological mapping of outcrops of crystalline rocks was practised. Knowledge of methods of modern geological mapping is essential in scientific, but particularly in applied geology. Good results were gained despite challenging weather conditions, and the existing geological map of Finland was complemented in two localities
The field training was led by Alvar Soesoo, who was assisted by Sigrid Hade (EGT/TalTech), Siim Nirgi (EGT) and Kristjan Urtson (TalTech).
